‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “When I have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered and am hallowed in them in the sight of the Gentiles, then they will dwell in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob.”’ (Ezekiel 28: 25)
Sometimes we can lose something that we know is the best. Sometimes the path of our life can take a turn that we never intended and which we know is away from that which is the best. Israel experienced it when they were exiled from their land.
We wonder why we can’t have that thing back, we wonder why nothing we do can set our lives right again, can steady the ship, can bring back that which is lost. But in the end we have to ask ourselves, ‘is God being hallowed in us?’ Are the lives we are living glorifying God – are we living a life unto Him or for ourselves? For it is not until we set our lives aright with Him that He will bring us back into the land, bring us back to that which we had lost. And if not, then that which is lost is probably not worth regaining.
That is probably not the primary meaning of the text here, but it sure struck me.
